Welcome Baby greeting card with a multicolour rainbow and blue details

What to Write in a New Baby Card

A new baby card is a small way to welcome a little person and show the family that you are thinking of them. You do not need a poem or a long message. A congratulations, a warm wish and a personal closing are often just right.

Short new baby wishes

These messages work when you want something simple to accompany a gift:

  • “Welcome to the world, [baby’s name]! Sending so much love to your whole family.”
  • “Congratulations on your new arrival! Wishing you many happy moments as you get to know your little one.”
  • “So happy for your growing family. Your little one is already so loved.”
  • “A little person, a very big welcome. Congratulations!”

If you do not know the baby’s name yet, “your little one” keeps the message personal without guessing.

For close friends or family

Write something that reflects your relationship with the parents. A gentle offer of practical help can mean more than advice they did not ask for.

“We are so happy to welcome [name] to the family. We are looking forward to all the little memories ahead. When you are ready, we would love to drop off dinner—no hosting required.”

Only offer something you can follow through on. You can also simply write, “There is no need to reply; we just wanted to send our love.”

For a second baby or a growing family

You can acknowledge a new sibling without making comparisons:

“Congratulations on your newest little family member! Sending love to you all, including [sibling’s name] as they settle into their new role.”

Keep the focus on welcoming this child. Jokes about sleepless nights or having “your hands full” can feel less encouraging than you intend.

Mazel Tov wishes for a new baby

If “Mazel Tov” is a greeting the family uses, it makes a lovely opening: “Mazel Tov on your new baby! Wishing your family love, happiness and many beautiful memories together.”

Our Mazel Tov New Baby cards offer designs for this celebration. Let the family’s preferences guide your wording rather than assuming a particular ceremony or tradition.

When a gentle message is best

Every family’s circumstances are different. If the arrival has been difficult or you are unsure how everyone is doing, a simple “We are thinking of you and sending love” leaves space for their experience. Avoid asking for details or promising that everything will be easy.

Choose a card they can keep

Look for a design the parents will enjoy, whether that is a rainbow, soft colours or a playful illustration. The Welcome Baby Blue Rainbow card pairs a colourful rainbow with hand-applied sparkle.
